Drunken Pirates - The Block-Breaker Game
Key Learnings:
Title Screen
Basic C#
Basic Unity 2D
Basic Game Development
Basic Asset Creation (sound, image)
Game-Testing & Bug-Fixing
This was a solo side-project that I decided to take on in June. It involved learning some basic C#, Unity Engine, and other aspects of the game development process. Aspects of this project were (obviously!) tutorial led. This was purely a personal project there were no deadlines or required outcomes, I simply wanted to learn more about Unity / C# / Game Development, and I intend to follow this up by learning how to make some more games with the engine and I’ll publish reviews for those as I go!
Solutions:
Challenges:
I used a mixture of the Unity Scripting API Manual, Udemy and YouTube tutorials to drive the coding aspects of development.
I sent the game to my friends who played it and gave me tuning advice and mentioned any bugs they spotted.
I utilised a mixture of tutorial assets, open-source assets on YouTube (SFX), and I made a small number of assets myself.
Level design was really fun. I spent some hours searching on YouTube to identify pirate themed items to turn in to levels!
No previous experience coding.
Finding bugs & tuning.
No asset creation experience (SFX or Art).
No level design experience.
Areas for Improvement:
More levels to add more completeness.
Variable speeds, difficulties and more variety of power-ups.
Better SFX with a soundtrack ideally for finish.
